Severn Rivers Trust Launch Fisheries Passport Scheme
The Severn Rivers Trust has launched a pilot of its fisheries passport scheme. The web site is here.
Four beats on the River Cain will now be available for anglers through the Severn Rivers Trust.
These are the first four of what will be eventually be many more beats on the Cain and many other small rivers throughout the Severn Catchment.
The beats are all in areas previously with very limited opportunities for anglers.
The Severn Rivers Trust has worked and continues to work with local communities, riparian owners and farmers to improve these rivers and give opportunities for anglers to fish in beautiful locations for wild brown trout and other species of fish.
The initial beats will all be fly only fishing with a strict catch and release policy in force.
The scheme is a sheer delight for the roving angler as it is operated through a unique token payment system. This allows anglers to access any of the participating fisheries when they want and without the need to contact anyone beforehand. All are catch and release, wild fish. You will be able to purchase vouchers using PayPal on the site, read a little about each beat and download maps.
Tokens cost £2.50 each and are supplied in books of 5 or 10 (£12.50 or £25.00) plus a £1.95 postage and admin charge. The tokens are valid for any beat but can only be used once. Tokens come in two parts – the first part is posted in a marked letterbox, located near or adjacent to the designated parking place, at the start of the day’s fishing. The second part is a catch return to be posted in the same letterbox at the end of the day’s fishing. Beats are rated according to their quality, ease of fishing and species of fish and cost between 2 and 5 tokens. Please make sure you complete a catch return (and post it in the Token Box) as this data is essential for monitoring the health of these rivers and provides useful information for other anglers.
Most of the rivers and beats in our scheme have been little fished in recent times. They have benefited from work done by local landowners, communities and farmers with the support of the SRT. Opening up these beats to anglers is all part of that process. Treat these small rivers with great respect and they will give wonderful results now and into the future.
We also hope to include links to all the angling clubs and associations who are supporters of the Trust and offer fishing within the catchment. The SRT is committed to supporting all our local angling clubs who have been and continue to be the champions of our rivers, for anglers and the wider community. Wherever you live in the Severn catchment there will be a club that can provide you with first rate fishing, if you are a visitor many also offer day tickets. Our own fisheries scheme works side by side with the angling clubs in the region.
We hope anglers throughout the catchment will find this site an useful resource and visiting anglers will be able to get a days fishing on our wonderful rivers. The Severn catchment is the largest in the United Kingdom and offers something for all river anglers, coarse or game.
