SALMON STOCKS AND FISHERIES IN ENGLAND AND WALES, 2010

For Severn Salmon anglers there is little to cheer. The 2010 reported rod catch was just 203 fish, with a further 238 declared by nets and fixed engines. Of the 203 rod caught Salmon 112 (55%) were released and 128 (63%) were MSW fish. This is a far cry from 1911 when 33,000 Salmon were caught by all methods from the Severn. Added to this it is estimated that 10.17m eggs were deposited, which is only 79% of the minimum egg deposition target of 12.85m. The report concludes that the Severn is Probably At Risk (PAR), but in reality it is actually At Risk (AR).
